Cosmopolitan New England: Hanover, New Hampshire

Hanover, New Hampshire is at the center of it all with Dartmouth College and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Interstates accessing Boston and New York City. Rural but sophisticated.

Each Upper Valley town has its own distinctive character and beauty. Hanover is home to Dartmouth College (one of the Ivy League colleges and the ninth oldest college in the nation) and enjoys a lively, 'New England cosmopolitan' business district. The area offers an incredible mix of activities, thanks to the great outdoors, including the Connecticut River, the White and Green Mountains, the arts and culture community, and the benefits of intellectual activities found in a college town.

Hanover offers activities that run the gamut from African drumming or chamber music concerts; dining options including ethnic Thai, Chinese, Korean, Italian; and you don't have to be a student to enjoy major athletic competition from football, hockey to ultimate frisbee.

The Hanover-Norwich-Lyme community is a great place for kids as with the stand-out "hands-on" Montshire Museum of Science and several options for public or private schools.

Innovative and excellent health care is also available at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and the Norris Cotton Cancer Center. Maybe you are considering a new job or a move to start a new family or looking for a place to actively retire. Consider Hanover. For those with cosmopolitan tastes but down-to-earth sensibilities. Did we mention the Hanover region is beautiful with plenty of outdoor activities year-round? Visit www.snyderdonegan.com to browse our luxury homes, estates and properties.

Note: Like Hanover, Norwich, Vermont also borders the Connecticut River and has a vibrant downtown. In addition, if you visit the New Hampshire towns of Etna and Lyme, you will enjoy beautiful scenery, independent shops, and activities that showcase the local community flavor. Wonderfully, you don't have to go too far to find the finishing touches to make your house a home. Woodstock, Vermont, centrally located near Barnard, Pomfret, Hartland and just a stone's throw from Norwich and Hanover, offers several shops with full-service interior design services (like Procopio) to the long-open Clover Gift Shop to the new design shop on Central Street "R. T. Home."

We asked Robert at R. T. Home what he considered a current trend or what was selling well. His answer? Cranberry! The color cranberry, including his offerings of "cranberry glass" pumpkins. He said cranberry-colored glass was popular in the 1920's and is clearly back in vogue.

Jazzy: SILO Distillery and Snyder Donegan Real Estate

    SILO
SILO Distillery hosts cocktails and jazz for a sophisticated Friday afternoon event!

Woodstock's Sonny Saul played "old standards" at SILO American Spirit Distillery Friday evening. It was a great way to start off the weekend. We sampled a SILO elderberry vodka cosmo while getting a distillery tour. The SILO location, near Simon Pearce, Harpoon Brewery and Vermont Farmstead Cheese just off I-91 in Windsor has become a real draw for both locals and visitors. If you're starting a weekend in Vermont or New Hampshire or just want a place, down the road, to "get out of the house," this is it. . Call it a  rural artisan industrial zone. The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in Vermont!SILO distillery

These  Vermont real estate properties are all a hop, skip and a jump from SILO. We particularly love this custom-built house on Amsden Farm Lane in Hartland. Bright, cheerful, spacious with a place for everyone in the family -- a playroom, an office (or two), totally equipped high-end kitchen, open floor plan AND a lovely pool to wake up your toes while you enjoy your first cup of coffee in serene country surroundings -- yet just five minutes to town. -- OR to the SILO distillery where you learn how Vermont-style cocktails are made!
